I have a Gigabyte (GA-7N400 Pro2) mainboard with an Athlon XP 2500+ CPU, a Seagate 120G 7200 rpm HDD, 512 M DDR RAM (400 MHz), and 128MB GeForce Graphics card and two optical drives attached to the secondary IDE master and slave, one being a CD RW burner and the other being a DVD ROM (both Liteon brand). I am using XP Pro SP2.
I have installed "Rome:Total War" several times from both the CD drives and the installation was apparently successful, but as soon as I tried to run the game the message "Can't Locate CD-ROM" appears. I have desk installed the game and the same problem occurs; and I have even exchanged the game for another and the same problem continues. I am at my wits end; the Activision website is of no use, I have tried all their suggestions. Please help.

Re: Rome:Total War can't locate CD-ROM
Generally you must play the game with the cd in the drive which you used for the installation. Many games won't run in a burner (but will install), as the game will check for a copy, and may get a wrong answer if a burner is used. CloneCD tray or Virtual Drive etc can also cause the genuine cd to appear to the program to be a fake, so disable any such and try again.

Re: Rome:Total War can't locate CD-ROM
I had the same problem with Rome Total war and Doom 3. I think it is my Virus scanner causing the problem, but anyway, after trying everything I could think of and still not being able to play my new (expensive) games I did a google search and found a no CD crack for my games and they both work fine now.
It is pretty stupid when you have to get a crack to play a game you own because it won't recognise the original disks.
Best of luck Ben.

Re: Rome:Total War can't locate CD-ROM
Generally you can only play games with the same optical drive they are installed from. For example, if you installed your game with the DVD-ROM drive, you can only play it with the CD in that drive.
