Hi guys,
I'm in a bit of a dilemna. I have never owned a digital camcorder nor have any knowledge on what to look for.
My main purposes would be to record family events such as birthdays and gatherings, especially of my 1 year old son.
Probably looking at standard definition however with a HDD.
What are the top of the range standard definition camcorders out at the moment?
CHOICE magazine recommends a Panasonic SDR-H280 or a Sony DCR-SR220, however when i went to the shops and was told these are outdated. Any suggestions for a standard definition that shoots excellent quality video?
Thanks!

Re: Standard-def camcorders
Hi Richard. There are still plenty of good standard-def camcorders on the market that record to HDDs. While its true the Panasonic SDR-H280 and Sony DCR-SR220 have been replaced by newer models, they are still worth buying if you can track one down.
However, if you want the newest and best versions, check out our reviews of the Sony DCR-SR47 and the Panasonic SDR-H80-K -

Both have lots of storage and 60x/70x optical zooms, which is truly massive.
