When we turn our computer on, we get a blue screen stating one of our discs needs to be checked for consistency on File system C Fat 32 Volume serial No. 2D41-1C04
We get the option to let it be scanned or hit a key and cancel it. When we let it scan it often takes over 4 hours and then doesen't fix the problem. We have been stopping the scanning since then, but still cannot find what the problem is.
We are not computer experts, does anyone have a solution to our problem??

Re: Disc needs checking for consistency
I acknowledge your statements. Here is the URL for the MS Knowledge base (MSKB) that offers numerous possible causes. There is also an article on running CHKDSK.
http://support.microsoft.com/search/default.aspx?mode=s&cat=false&query=running+chkdsk+in+XP&x=16&y=14&srch=sup
I suggest that you could cancel out of CHKDSK and let the computer start and then run CHKDSK from the 'Run' menu. This may solve the issue. Other than that, look at the various MSKB articles.
Good luck
