My sister's new Compaq notebook PC plays DVD's containing sound & video with only one or the other; sound or video! Mostly they are Australian PAL type DVD's commercially made possibly in Australia for Australian artists! Also sometimes a screen asks for a choice to be made between Australian and overseas zones but with only 4 times the choice can be made.
She does not have an Internet connection, I do. Is there any way I can download a program to alleviate this problem for her?
Thanks guys

Re: DVD's not playing properly on new notebook PC with Vista
Region locking is an absolute crock, but beware, once you have made the 4 remaining changes, the drive is locked to that region permanently. Avoid this situation by purchasing, downloading and installing AnyDVD. This makes all disks appear region free. This is not piracy, just exercising your right to use the products you have legitimately purchased.

I forgot the other issue, sorry. It sounds like you don't have a decent decoder installed, you don't get one with Windows, you must install a third party program. My choice is PowerDVD. Once installed you will find the issues will disappear and also media player will play DVDs correctly, as it will use the decoder provided by PowerDVD. Note that you will need a recent version (7.something) to work correctly with Vista.

Thanks for your good advice Chris B. So I would not need to get the program ANYdvd; just PowerDVD?

Hi again
PowerDVD is the player and should resolve any video / sound issues, however if you use disks from more than one region, you absolutely need AnyDVD also, otherwise you will finish up being able to play disks from one region only.
