Blue screen when start up (2 posts)

Dear Helpscreen,

I have a computer of P3 866, 256mb ram, win98SE, Geforce 2 MX, SoundBlaster Live! Platinum 5.1 and 10GB of hard drive.

I was using the original graphic card driver that came with the setup disc, however, I downloaded the detonator driver from nVidia recently, and the problems began. It seems that when I tried to start my games like Max Payne, Throne of Darkness, etc. it always come out a blue screen said 'fatal execption. error in vxd ......'

At first, I thought that was the driver problem, so I tried download another one in the Hercules website, but it still won't help. Then I tried installed the old one again, the problems get worse.

I have disabled the background application like anti-virus when I installed the driver. (execpt for installing the old one, the 'new found hardware' box comes out when windows just start up) Also, when I start the PowerDVD to watch DVD now, I'm able to change the resolution to 1024x768, but this is not the case before! Please solve my problems and tell me what to do! Should I just format the hard drive and do a fresh installation again?

Regards, Don

Re: Blue screen when start up

Sounds like you didn't properly uninstall the original drivers.

The procedure is:

Set the graphics adapter to Standard PCI VGA adapter in the display properties.

If there is an uninstaller with your original drivers, use it, or try uninstalling from Add/Remove Programs.

Restart the system.

Install the new drivers.
