Visual Basic Compile error in MS Word and Excel (12 posts)

I have a computer running office 2003 and Windows XP. Whenever I open or close up MS Word or Excel documents, or open them up from my desktop I get the following error messages:

When I open MS word or Excel Documents, in the title bar it says:

"MICROSOFT VISUAL BASIC"

and the error says:

"Compile Error in hidden module AutoExec"

When I open MS word or Excel From the desktop, in the title bar it says:

"MICROSOFT VISUAL BASIC"

and the error says:

"Compile Error in hidden module AutoExecNew"

When I Close MS word or Excel, in the title bar it says:

"MICROSOFT VISUAL BASIC"

and the error says:

"Compile Error in hidden module DistMon"

I've tried reinstalling, uninstalling, downgrading to 2000 and upgrading back to 2003 nothing seems to fix it.

PLEASE HELP!

Apparently PDFMaker.xla is the problem - see MS article

I also found this at PCAnswers.com:

The problem is linked to a corrupt or outdated add-in that’s starting with Microsoft Office. The Microsoft Knowledgebase has one particular reference at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307410, but this assumes you have both Norton AntiVirus installed and an outdated Adobe Acrobat add-in (PDFMaker), which may not be the case.

What you should do is browse to the Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOfficeStartup folder (Office10Startup in Office XP) and see what’s inside it. Move any files you find to another folder and then restart Office – the error messages should vanish.

It’s then a case of identifying the files you found – maybe even putting them back one by one and restarting Office until the error message returns – and then doing a Google search for that filename to find out more about it. You can then take appropriate action: either dump the file altogether or go looking for an updated version that won’t cause problems.

Hope these help you, but I have this problem too, and none of the above has helped. When I get it fixed, I'll post again.

I have had the same error and some how found that this is an ADOBE error.

1. Un-install all Adobe products in your ADD/REMOVE list. 2. Re-start your computer. 3. Open your MS Word program.

You should see your error resolved.

4. Install the latest Adobe products onto your computer and restart.
