I am current using a G31M1 mobo and was running a core2 duo cpu, I decided to upgrade to core2 quad. After installing the new cpu onto my mobo and turned it on i found that it did not get passed the bios. What can i do to get it working?

Are you running the most recent BIOS? Maybe upgrade that and see if it makes a difference. You may have to also try resetting your BIOS to the original setting and see if that helps.

Are you able to advise on the exact MB version? I believe you might be referring to a Gigabyte GA-G31 series, however need to know which board it is as well as the current version of bios you have installed.

in the meantime you may wish to swap back to your old core2 duo and see if the system boots normally.

I suspect if you have removed the old CPU, plugged the new one in and not flushed out the bios, the system is not recognizing the new CPU (quad core).

Jump into BIOS and reset the settings to default then save. reboot and the system should prompt you advising that settings have changed and detected the new cpu.
if this does not work, try to update (if not already) and flash the bios to the newer revision. again follow the same steps.

make sure that you have not caused any physical damage to any of the cpu socket pins also - as this will cause the some smiler issues.

Hope this helps, and if all else fails but the old cpu still works, you may have a dead quad core cpu!
