ADSL (Bigpond) (2 posts)

Hi guys,

I am about to get ADSL and I would like to network it using two computers, one with Windows XP Pro and the other using Windows XP Home (both with SP2 installed).

My ADSL will be from Telstra and will have a 4 port modem and I will be on a 1500/256kbps plan.

My question is can I network the two computer to allow both to access the internet? If so, how do I do it or can you direct me to some information to enable me to set it up?

The installation of the ADSL will be done by Telstra but they won't help me with the networking.

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

The modem is a router also. After the tech leaves, plug the second PC into it, set them both to the same workgroup name, enable file sharing and you should be away. The modem will supply IP addresses to both PCs. Use straight through (standard) network cables, not crossover cables. If you don't want to share files / printers, just plug the second unit in - internet will work straight away, as the setup is already done and XP will spot the connection without further prompting.
