Mate, need some help here.
I recently add a server to my small office where we got about 10 users. It works perfect at the beginning for 1 day, but users starts to discover problem the next day.
When users open files on server - especially MS office files - the whole application hangs! It takes a long 1-2 mins before the file is fully readable/loaded, or worse yet, the program needs an end task.
Any suggestions or fixes?

Re: Application hangs
No where near enough info. What OS on the server and workstations? Your PC specs. How much RAM in the server? What make and model hubs/switches. Do you have other servers? How is your network set up? If no other servers, what was going on before you added it? Are you running a domain or a workgroup? This is not a topic which can be covered in a few paragraphs, so give me what you can and we will see.... In the mean time, schedule a reboot each night out of hours.

Re: Application hangs
If you're using File and Printer sharing I have had a similar issue on the same sort of lines. I found that disabling the Windows XP firewall solved my problem. Try it without the firewall and let us know how you get on.

Re: Application hangs
You need to run "adaware" from inside the progam and that should correct this! If you dont have it on your pc download it here>>>

OS on server > MS Server 2003
Workstations > we got XP home (this one got the hardest hit) and XP pro, Win98 (this one works fine somehow?)
Your PC specs.
Average RAM 128MB
CPU Mixture of Celeron, P3 and P4
How much RAM in the server?
512MB
What make and model hubs/switches. Do you have other servers?
There was one old server before running on domain controller; the new server is on a new domain and I have changed the corresponding info on each workstation.
How is your network set up? If no other servers, what was going on before you added it?
Server > Switch > individual workstation ports
Are you running a domain or a workgroup?
Domain controller, but some workstation are login locally via workgroup

Re: Application hangs
Hmmm.. well obviously if you're running a server you wouldn't have the firewall up on the client side, causing this issue.
Have you tried, releasing some of the computers from the switch and seeing if that makes a difference, if thats the case prehaps your switch is on the way out. Because we have a Server 2003 server here (used to have 512mb ram) but we found it was slow, and the only way we made the server speed up, was to put 1GB of ram in it, and replace the network switch!
