Unable to load library Steam.dll on Steam.exe (18 posts)

This is such a joke - a not very bloody funny joke!

I just bought this game the other day (half life 2). I load it up, then I get:

steam.exe (main exception): unable to load library Steam.dll

I scanned for viruses, spy ware, ad ware. I turned off my firewall, turned off my virus protection, turned of spy ware, turned off adaware, I don’t have any other guardian progs, deleted that blob file people have been talking about, installed steam from website and I get another error problem with "8e8" ... That is only a fraction of what I can remember from the pop up that comes up.

Now I don’t mind the stuffing around, as with most games you do have to mess around to get the best experience out of your computer - but what I do hate is the lack of support from Steam.

I have noticed and contributed to a 17 page forum on steam on exactly this problem and the only solution steam have come up with is "this is a corrupt install. reinstall and you should be cool."

Well guess what, I'm not cool about crap service! I paid about $90 for this game. I'd just to get some value for money please!

(Forum thread) http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=5226759#newpost

I have Pent 4 2.8, 2 gig ram, 256 6600 geforce vid card - not that this is going to bloody help at all.

I paid a lot of money for a product that I have to configure, problem solve, alter files, delete files & bend over backwards for. I thought gaming was supposed to be fun?!

Can someone please ease my frustration?

There is nothing to be gained in coming here and telling everyone how frustrated you are. This is not the Steam help desk and we do not owe you anything. We can only help if you ask nicely enough.

I guess the definition of "contribution" can be a subjective topic.

My suggestion to you: start your own thread in the Steam forums and wait patiently for someone to reply to YOUR thread.

Posting the same question in 2 separate forums does not fall within forum etiquette.

Okay, I had the same problem and realised that I was getting the message everytime steam was trying to update when I wasn't online.

Don't know about you but I need to click an icon to get online after everything else has booted up. I installed css without clicking the icon to go online and kept getting the same message. Tried it while online and hey presto, it works.

Hope this helps anybody else who gets the same problem :)
