Cable Broadband and 802.11n Router (3 posts)

I have Telstra cable Broadband and I want to purchase a compatible wireless dual band Router. I intend to use the wireless to connect a 11 n laptop (upstairs brick home) and a remote 2nd desktop (20 mtr away downstairs). Can you please advise a suitable router(s) to do this task. I have been told that not all Routers work with Telstra's cable broadband. Thank You.

Why not ask your provider? That would be my first option

Cheers

Hi,

Most routers will work from 20mts away, however the brick may cause some issues.

You would be best to locate the router in the middle of the two PC's if possible.

Look to get yourself a Linksys, or the likes as they will do the trick.

Buying the hardware from your provider is another option, however many cases they inflate the price of the hardware by very high levels, and may want to add longer to your plan (if on a contract).

Have a look at www.parts4pcs.com.au they have some good gear.

Good luck, Micky.
