Hi!
I recently bought an HP desktop PC and it has begun to try to install a program called HP Document Viewer everytime I open various apps. The problem is that it can't complete the installation of Document Viewer because it says there is a "missing msi". I have done a search of the PC and can not find anything to do with Document Viewer.
Seeing as there is no msi for this program, is there any way of getting rid of it?

Re: How can I stop Document Viewer?
Russell,
You have to associate particular files that are trying to use 'Document Viewer' with other software.
(Word Pad, notebook, Office etc).
Have you tried a Google on the missing file? You may be able to download.

Re: How can I stop Document Viewer?
Yes, I have tried to find the msi on google, but no luck. I phoned HP but they want to charge me $33, and yet this is their own software they put in the PC. When they say "limited warranty" they really mean it! My old PC was a Packard Bell, and I could talk to them anytime for free during the warranty.
Anyway, I did see something else on a google search where someone else was having the same trouble but I haven't found the answer yet. This thing tries to install when opening all sorts of things, My Videos for example, that is just a folder so why should I want to install when opening that?
I have searched the HP site but they don't provide an msi for this.
Oh well.

Russell,
You still don't say what a MSI is- I don't know myself.
Anyway, you should still be able to change the file association to steer away from the document viewer.

Re: How can I stop Document Viewer?
The msi is a microsoft installer. I can't change the file association as it is not trying to open anything with document viewer, it's just that document viewer keeps trying to install itself when I open various programs.
The other day I did find something on a google search where someone said to install another driver for the HP printer (even if you don't have one as the software is built into the computer and this is where the document viewer comes from) but as usual, I couldn't get the download from HP. It seems HP are only interested in selling the computers, there is virtually NO after sales service unless it is an obvious hardware fault. Even when I sent an email to their online help, all they said was to ring HP and pay the $33. I DON'T RECOMMEND HP TO ANYONE!
Oh well, I will just have to go along cancelling it every time is tries to install.
Thanks for trying to help.
Russell.

Re: How can I stop Document Viewer?
Russ,
MSI- If it's a MS item- Have you tried the MS Update site? It may only require an update of the 'installer' rather than the document viewer itself.
Good luck.

Re: How can I stop Document Viewer?
Remove any apps that have to do with your printer. I had the same problem and it went away when I removed my printer software. Your document viewer is a printer software problem!
Reinstall software and see if it happens again. If it does ,trash your software and make your voice heard against hp crap!

Re: How can I stop Document Viewer?
I have a solution to resolve the document viewer if anyone cares. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301 and download the Windows Install Clean up utility. After you install it scroll down until you see Hp Document Viewer. Select it and click remove. This also fixes the trayapp install error.

Try this
I seem to have found a simple solution. I have HP Digital Imaging Monitor on my tray running and whenever I try to launch it the Documentviewer.msi dialogue comes up. This happened after I installed and uninstalled FLV to DIVX converter from a website.
Solution
After many hours surfing the forums and trying all sorts of fixes I put my HP cd in the drive and launched HP Imaging monitor. The pesky dialogue came up again and then disappeared and hasn't been back since. Touch wood. Simple really. Hope this helps.

It works!
This problem does indeed appear to be HP printer related. My Acer PC had exactly the same problems after installing video format converter software and putting in the HP printer software CD when the dialogue appeared fixed the problem.
