Connecting to new HD channels (4 posts)

please help me in my seach for suitable equipement or cables to be able to get channel 1,HD brought out by channel 10.

I have attached my existing equipment which is an old tv, a dvd/vdr combo and an optus pay tv stb which is only on standard definition.

I only want to be able to view HD contents and no need for high quality or I dont mind watching in SD. My main aim is only to be able to get the channel 1 HD channel.

My optus box is only a standard def box.

Are there any cables I can buy? or if none, do you have a cheap or basis HD stb I can buy as I'm a pensioner and so cost is a factor.

thanks a lot regards esther

Hi, To get access to HD

Hi,

To get access to HD channels, it is necessary (annoyingly!) to buy an HD-compatible set top box. These can be picked up for around $70 or so for a generic model in Dick Smith, Tandy etc.

Most generic HD set top boxes will have the appropriate connectors to be hooked up to an older television set.

Are there any government subsidies for people to buy this stuff? I heard there's a subsidy from the Rudd government for Kogan TVs somewhere, so maybe they're doing this too?

Hi,

At the moment there's no free money to buy digital set top boxes or digital equipment. It's possible that closer to the cut-off date there'll be subsidies, but nothing is certain.

Think of this as a good opportunity to use a little bit of your $900 'stimulus package'. There are no subsidies for Kogan TVs, either - they're just priced that low normally!
