Access is denied (6 posts)

It seems that whenever someone tries to access my computer it just pops up with and error saying that they might not have permission to access the server and to contact the administrator.

I have enabled it so that everyone is allowed full permissions to the computer/shares but it still will not let people connect to me. However, when i host games people can still connect to them (i dont think is related to the problem though)

Re: Access is denied

Have you created user accounts? and given people full admin access? or are they browsing your PC via the network ?

Re: Access is denied

Its when people try to access me over the network, whether it be going through network neighbourhood or accessing it by typing \*. The popup box asking for the username and password doesnt even get a chance before the eror message pops up.

I have tried creating an account with the same username and password on this my computer but it still doesnt fix the problem.

Re: Access is denied

Depends upon what OS and type of network - workgoup or client/server...

If it is the latter and your machine is the server you will have to create a computer account and a user account (not a local account) for each user (in "Active Directory - Users and computersfor Win2k) and assign the appropriate permissions (if evryone has the same permissions, add them to a group and assign the group the permissions).

Re: Access is denied

The problem is on any workgroup network. It's all very puzzling, I have had several people look at it, but they can't figure it out either. Things were working all right under win 2K, but as soon as I upgraded to XP people couldn't access me over a workgroup network.

Re: Access is denied

Have you run the "set up a home / business network" wizard on XP. It always seems to like being the controlling PC in a mixed group.
