Hi
I have been using Norton Internet Security 2005 for around six months now. When I first purchased the product I had no trouble in activating it. A few months back I had to uninstall it and reinstall it. Again I had no trouble activating it. Recently I had to reinstall again, but this time I had trouble activating it.
Whenever I get to the screen telling me to connect to their server, I pressed next but the only difference was my cursour turned into an hour glass. Somehow I managed to get past this problem.
My trouble now is I have to reinstall again but I cannot remember what I did. I have followed the instructions exactly from the Symantec website but still no change. I am running XP Pro.
It would be appreciated if nobody posted on here to get rid of Nortons. I find this annoying and would like help with software I currently have, not selecting software. If anybody has any ideas on how I can overcome my problem, that would be much appreciated.

Re: Norton Internet Security 2005 Activation
You mean you've got it, you like it, but it doesn't work? Ah well, another happy Norton user. Far be it from me to ruin your fun.

Re: Norton Internet Security 2005 Activation
There may be a corrupt registry setting, but try this.
Create a system restore point and go Start-Run and type regedit. Expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER. If you find a folder called Norton Internet Security, delete it.
Note: Make sure you create a restore point as mentioned above. It is very important!

Re: Norton Internet Security 2005 Activation
Sorry, but if you don't want to be advised to get rid of NAV then you may not get too many responses.
The problems you're having are typical and frequent for Norton users, that's why it gets such bad press here. It's like a troublesome car - if it causes you grief you get rid of it and buy something else. That's common sense.
If you MUST retain NAV then you may be able to fix it, at least until the next problem comes up anyway.
Those who advise getting rid of it are the people who've experienced it's foibles and therefore unlikely to want to spend time trying to sort it out for you.
It's really a little unfair to persist with troublesome software and insist on keeping it and then ask for help to fix it.
Paul.

Re: Norton Internet Security 2005 Activation
Have you used the programs, SymNrt and SYMCLN, to try to remove all instances of Norton from your system? Both of these programs are available on the symantec website.
The other thing that I have done in the past is to edit the registry and remove any reference to Symantec and Norton in the registry. BE SURE TO BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY FIRST THOUGH.
You could also try using a rtegistry cleaning progtam such as REG 1st AID to clean up the registry once you have removed the Symantec/Norton programme from your system and have run the 2 symantec programmes I mentioned above.
Good Luck

Re: Norton Internet Security 2005 Activation
Hi Nick,
I know most programs that require activation can only be activated a maximum of a few times, before having to ring the mob, and asking them to enable you to reactivate it again.
Perhaps you need to speak to a customer consultant regarding this.
