Networking after XP SP2 (4 posts)

Resubmitted question after updating profile (defunct e mail address) corrected.

Need some help with this one. Networking worked fine until I installed the SP2 disk received with my PC World Mag.

Now I have 'UNSPECIFIED' PC/Drives:

b on New Desktop 0904 Vic-newdesk)
c gckdesk on Unknown User (Gckdesk)
c lap on LapTop (Notebook)
e lap on LapTop (Notebook)
f lap on LapTop (Notebook)
mydocuments on LapTop (Notebook)
myob11 on Unknown User (Gckdesk)
vcb lap f on LapTop (Notebook)

Fairly new to networking but managed to link together 2 machines running Windows 98SE, 1 Notebook with ME and a new Desktop with XP Pro.

All help appreciated as have searched my pet site to hate for help without sucess - MS Support!

Regards,

Vic Blizzard

Re: Networking after XP SP2

Vic,

It looks to me like you have a number of shared directories in your network, that's why you see the drives that you mentioned.

I believe you are looking at these drives under "My Network Places" or similar rather than under your Local Drives.

This is normal and I'm sorry but I can't see how SP2 would have caused this. I'd say maybe you didn't notice them before, but they were probably always there since the time you shared the relevant directories.

It's nothing to worry about.

Regards,

Daniel
