ADSL Filters? (5 posts)

I am getting ADSL installed and am wondering how to install the filter(s). I have one line going to the back of my house like this diagram shown below: ---Main Line---Phone---Phone 2---ADSL Modem

How would I install them? Thanks

Re: ADSL Filters?

As far as I know, for every line that is connected to the phone, you need to have the following: Line -> Filter -> Phone. You need a line splitter to be able to 'split' the line into both the phone and the ADSL modem.

Re: ADSL Filters?

This is correct that you need a filter for each phone or should I say line that connects to a phone instead of the ADSL modem.

You could have main line---filter--phone--phone2 ---modem

A simple phone double adapter will suffice to split the phone line into modem and phone connections. So the connection diagram you have drawn will work as long as the modem connects to the main line without any filters in place. Plus you must have a filter for each phone that runs of the main line.

Hope I helped,

Re: ADSL Filters?

In my last post the client has wrapped my text to give an incorrect display. The modem cannot be attached to the phone line with a filter, it must be attached direct. A simple phone double adapter can be use to split the line and have a modem connect to one plug and a phone can be connected to the other plug but a filter must be inserted between the double adapter and the phone. You can have 10 phones connected to a single filter if you wish.

Hope this makes it a bit clearer.

Re: ADSL Filters?

Telstra's home install kit supplies an ADSL/pots splitter which must be installed as first point, then it feeds pots, via a filter, to the phones, with ADSL supplied to the modem .

One filter can supply more than one phone too.
