new power supply (2 posts)

will a new power supply make my computer run faster? if so, how to find out how big of one is needed?

a power supply is probably not what you need

A new power supply will probably not improve your computer's performance, unless the system you have right now is not getting enough power. This is unlikely, unless someone put your computer together incorrectly.

If you want to know how much power you need, you can check out a Power Supply Calculator, which figures out how much juice you need for the parts you are running.

To make your PC go faster, you are better off upgrading other parts, like adding more RAM, upgrading your video card, installing a faster CPU and motherboard, but if your knowledge is limited, you might be better off simply looking into an entirely new system.
