Internet sharing (3 posts)

Hi everyone,

My questions is about how to setup a computer to share the internet.

I had two computers, one as the host machine for file, print and internet sharing and one that connected through the host. Everything worked fine, all printers, file sharing, internet etc.

I have recently bought a new computer which i want to setup in my network. I have set all three up through an ethernet switch, and have got file and printer sharing working on all three.

But i do not know how to setup so i can connect through the internet on my new machine. One of my other computers, the client on the network, has failed to start, so i cannot simply look at all its settings to see how to configure the internet.

If it helps, internet is dial-up, all computers are windows XP home SP2.

Thanks very much in advance for any help,

Ethan

Re: Internet sharing

The new computer should be set to obtain an internet address (IP) automatically, and should be in the same workgroup as the others. Initially disable Windows firewall and another firewall you may have running to ensure that if the connection is there it will find it without issue.

Re: Internet sharing

That looks pretty bad. My typing is deteriorating. I meant - and any other firewall you may have running...
