NET is dead :-( (4 posts)

Hello I ve tried asking many people for help... none have solved my problem though.

My problem is: Some time ago I installed Norton internet security 2006 on my PCs (3 PCs). From that time on my File sharing/Printer are disabled and I barely get to Mshome to see my own PC but getting to the other PCs is sci-fi.

I resinstalled, network HW + allowed computers on FW, but it's totally dead. One PC can even connect to Internet... And as for my net its Rooter modem (always online) and 4 PCs on it...

I am using Win XP Pro SP2 ... Please help me where to look or what to change...

When I check the Event Viewer there are 2 problems in System:

Mrxsmb has some kind of problem (on both PCs) and Service Controll Manager...

Please Help me I am desperate and its very important to make it work as soon as possible...

Seehank

Re: NET is dead :-(

I havn't worked with Norton B4 but with ZoneAlarm you chose between an internet or trusted zone... internet zone means that you cannot be seen.

one check would be to temporarally disable Norton on all computers. (disconnect from internet first) If you are able to see eachother on the network then its Norton... if not then its ur cabling or network config.

Re: NET is dead :-(

I had a very similar experience with the 2004 product. (this is one way to fix it) you need to download the symantec removal tool and remove symantec products from your computer. If your still set on nortons, reinstall it and cross your fingers.

Alternately (this is what i did), uninstall nortons, send symantec a letter of complaint, and install another piece of internet security. I'm currently recommending PC-Cillin, as i've had no problems with it yet.

There are probably other ways of sorting this out, but i had so many problems with my system that removing nortons internet security fixed 99.99% of them.

Re: NET is dead :-(

Open Norton and click on Help and it will lead you to the Norton help on the net and you can search their problem database. Once you install a Firewall you do have to configure it to allow what you want to happen. Have you tried reading the manual on how to do it? It is a good starting point. It seems not many people in this forum like Norton so they don't use it. Ultimately you may have to uninstall it or work it out for your self.
