USB power - lights stay on after shutdown (3 posts)

Hi

After a system upgrade, motherboard etc, my optical mouse stayed lit-up after the computer was shut down. If the mouse buttons were clicked it would boot the computer even though all wake-up events in the BIOS were disabled. I fixed this by plugging the mouse into a USB port (it was plugged into a PS2 port via an adapter).

My printer cable has LED lights built in (to make it look cool I guess) and after the computer is shut down these lights are still lit as well. I thought when you shut down all power except power to the Pwr pins on the mother board should be off.

It is a Foxcon board with Celeron D 3GHz

Any ideas??

Re: USB power - lights stay on after shutdown

Unless they are unplugged or turned off at the power point ATX power supplies never completely turn off. They keep supplying 5V "standby power" to the motherboard in case one of the events occurs that are setup to turn the PC on. And as you've discovered the motherboard keeps supplying that voltage to all the peripherals, even if you've configured them in the BIOS so they can't wake the PC up. I guess when the idea was originally thought up no-one thought of USB printer cables with LEDs built into them.

yeah?
