I have just received my PC Worle Sept 06 issue with the DVD including Ubuntu.
I have an older PC that I want to install Ubuntu as a second OS (with Windows 2000). I don't have a DVD drive on it (I only have a cd writer on this PC) so I wanted to know how and what to copy to create a CD installer.

There are many ways to do this and perhaps the best is to request for a set of CDs from Ubuntu's shipit service - https://shipit.ubuntu.com/

There should be a file "ubuntu-6.06-desktop-i386.iso" somewhere on the DVD you will need to have that file burnt to a CD using "Burn image file " or similar.
If your PC is too old it may not be suitable, modern Linux distros need as much or more ram than XP, even if they dont need huge hard drive space, XP only needs 128 meg according to Microsft web site despite what every "expert" says and peaks at 384meg from test results I seen, Ubuntu also needs at least 128 meg and better still 256 or more.
I would suggest at least a P111 866 or better perhaps a 1 gig P111 for comfortable performance. On a P111 933 with 384 meg, XP was more lively than any Linux I tried in loading and loading aps.

You need to get access to a DVD reader at least. You need to find the Ubuntu ISO file on the DVD. A large file, probably 650+ Mb size. This file needs to be copied onto a CD using the burn ISO option in your CD writer program. And it should also be a bootable image.
Alternatively, there are others sources of Ubuntu ready to use CDs - you might want to try one of these instead (just google for it)

Thanks finally downloaded the CD ISO file and installed. Very smooth installation despite blowing my cable bandwidth. I installed on a Windows 2000 PC and it partitioned the drive and installed. Makes Windows install look amateurish.
