Hello i am trying to get my Netgear EVA 8000 to work with a 1tb USB drive but having problems.. it scans the files ok (about 60000) but the tells me it can not save the library. What am i doing wrong?!

Sounds like you have a disc formatted in NTFS. The EVA8000 can't save the library to NTFS so you will have to save to location on your network. Set up a save location on your PC using the disc that came with the player, or download the DEW software from here: http://kb.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/2353

Of course, if you don't have a PC that can be networked, you will have to format your external drive using the ext3 file system, which the EVA8000 can write to and save the library. And i think the only way you can format a drive to ext3 is through a Linux PC. It would be easier to just use a networked PC, making sure the PC is on the network when you use the EVA.

EVA8000 problem

Hi VIN,

My name is Jason and work for NETGEAR as one of the Support Engineers. I've looked into the problem you're having with your EVA8000 and have put together some information that should help.

The EVA8000 can read off of USB drives that are formatted in NTFS, with a few exceptions:

1) The USB drive can't have a hub built in 2) The USB drive can only have one partition (multiple folders in the partition, but only one partition) 3) The EVA8000 cannot write to NTFS, only read.

Make sure the USB drive does not have a built-in hub. There could be an issue with the compatibility of the USB drive (caddy) itself.

The system formats that are recognized on the EVA8000 are FAT, FAT32, NTFS and EXT2/EXT3 formatted drives. The EVA8000 can read/write to and from a USB drive using FAT32 and EXT2/EXT3 however USB drives formatted in NTFS can only be read.

Windows supports EXT2/EXT3 by downloading the drivers from the link below and installing them. This will enable the PC to read and write using EXT2/EXT3. The system format EXT2/EXT3 does not have the file size limitation as FAT32 has. You can find drivers from this link: http://www.fs-driver.org/

Just an additional note: When you plug the external USB drive in, you should see the popup "Scanning USB drive" or "...Found library, do you want to load". If you don't see any change on the EVA screen try pulling the USB out and plugging it back in and see if it is recognised.

Otherwise, you can insert the USB drive into a PC and setup file sharing to the USB drive or install the DEW software (http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/314) and setup shares or NAS such as our ReadyNAS Duo and share the USB drive over the network. The EVA8000 will be able to pick up the share and read media over the network and write to the database location.

Hi Jason Have they fixed the windows& issue yet. I have a EVA8000 that connects to my network shares but wont play black. Keeps telling me it cannot connect to the location even though it shows all media on my shared drives. Cheers Rob

I'm having the same issue as the above post... EVA8000 reads file and directory names, but says "file has been moved or deleted" when I try and play them. Perhaps a Windows 7 issue that will likely not be addressed since the EVA8000 has reached the end of its life. Sad that perfectly good hardware has to be ditched because of lack of support from the manufacturer.
