has anyone used homepna for a home network? (3 posts)

Has anyone set up a home network using the much vaunted Homepna? That is using existing telephone wiring with all the necessary splitters / filters etc.

I have the detail but cannot find the equipment in Australia!

I think what you want isn't HomePNA but HomePlug.

HomePlug runs the LAN over the power wiring. Most computer stores sell the NetComm NP210. I doubt if a company like NetComm would sell it if it doesn't work. But it isn't fast at only 14 Mb/s, but then wireless isn't either. And it has distance limitations, but then so does wireless. And it isn't cheap, ditto wireless. Oh, and the devices all have to be connected to the same power circuit.

The last time I checked HomePNA - running a LAN over phone wiring - was banned here because Telstra doesn't like it.

Fine idea though - but with wireless being so cheap 'n easy now, why bother.
