ADSL networking (4 posts)

I have 2 pc's, adsl modem, router and I run the pc's on XP.

Can anyone assist in point by point form how to set up the pc's to network the system. Bear in mind I am a novice and need step by step instructions starting from switching on the pcs.

thanks

Kishor

Re: ADSL networking

You need to have 2 x network cards on both your systems. You also need a cross over cable for your network cards - and your Win XP installation disc - once you have these, let us now.

Re: ADSL networking

If you have a router, you don't need 2 network cards in the pcs or crossover cables. You can connect the modem to the router and the pcs - with standard network cables. Configure one, then connect the second. The procedure will vary depending on the functionality of the equipment. What make / model router and modem?

Re: ADSL networking

Thanks for your replies, most appreciated.

I have been unable to use the pc's since the original enquiry. the ADSL modem is Netgear, model DM 602 and the router is , Netgear router gateway RP614.

I have been through the XP Wizard, all the settings are correct, ie, computer names, work group etc,but i still cannot "see" the other computer.

Thanks.
