Video on mobile phone (4 posts)

I shot some video on my compact digital still camera and wanted to put it on my mobile phone, as I don't always carry the camera, and I ran into a plethora of video compatibility problems.

The camera shoots high definition video 1280x960 in widescreen AVI format. Nero Vision 5 will convert to a multitude of formats but no simple menu item says which one suits a small mobile phone!

The mobile has no help at all about video. The Mobiles tech support said to shoot some video on the mobile and analyse it on the PC to get the settings! (You would think they might have already done this?) It shoots MP4 3GP at 174*144 pixels at a frame rate of 8.72fps, pixel shape is square video stream is progressive.

I tried to convert to these settings with Nero and got close, but the video is still widescreen so although it plays ok on the phone, it occupies only a third of the already small screen! The phone's screen is 43mm high and 33mm wide, i.e. 3:4 and as most other devices than phones shoot in 4:3, 16:9 or even wider how do I convert video from other devices to watch on the phone? Unlike some fancy phones this one doesn't have a convert to landscape mode.I also tried media coder -- a confusing array of settings, doesn't seem to have the right ones, and movie maker in windows vista business --it will only make WMV video. This phone wont play WMV, only MP4 and AAC.

Re: Video on mobile phone

You've missed out possibly the most important item ............ what's the phone brand and model number ??

Re: Video on mobile phone

Telstra ZTE 165, supposedly only supports MP4 and AAC video. However my wife has a motorola Q9, running windows mobile 6 so I used windows moviemaker and windows media encoder 9 to export video for pda and it fills the screen nicely on the motoQ9, though perhaps not enough pixels for the phone.

I thought why not try those wmv files on the ZTE since ZTE, telstra and nobody else seems to have any idea of its video capabilities. They play well, and fill 70% of the screen and look very sharp! Nero 8 (full version), media coder 6 do not seem to have a facility to export in pda or mobile phone format, just a myriad of settings for MP4 to approximate it.

I also have cyberlink DVD suite with power produce 3 (the cut down version that comes with a DVD writer) which also doesn't seem to have a setting to export video for mobile format. I haven't tried itunes as I presume it supports iphone formats only.
