utube downloads file sizes (3 posts)

How can I work out what size a music clip is on youtube, as I am restricted to a download limit. If I save it to Favourtes & play it again does it still use up the same downloading amount, or less?

Re: utube downloads file sizes

Once you have D/L (Viewed) a You-tube video it's cached(stored) on your hard drive in your temp internet files and kept there for the period set on your computer. Default is typically 20 days - so thats how long it should be on your PC.

If you view it again it should play the clip cached on your HD, so its not downloaded again.

You can tell if this is the case by how quickly the video starts on your computer. Once you have viewed it go back to the clip a day or 2 later, if it plays pretty much right away its playiing the copy cached on your harddrive - if it takes a while its being downloaded again to your computer.

If you want to save a You tube video to your harddive so you dont need to go to the web site again you can use this site which converts the video into a file you can save on your computer.

Thanks Phillip for your response & your advice on converting videos to files, which I'll surely follow up on. It's a bit of a mystery how difficult it is to find out how many mgbs an average video clip on YouTube is chewing up. I suspect it's between 25 - 50 mgbs per 5 minute clip. It certainly eats up your downloads that's for sure. Cheers Scott
