What the heck is SDK? (3 posts)

A Xmas Gift of C.S.I. (Crime Scene Investigation) Game loaded fine, Menu screen opens fine. But after clicking on first case to solve I get a dialogue box named "Director Player Error".

The box reads 'Handler not defined". #set Track Enabled. I click ?OK.

The game then freezes, and I have to click Alt-Control-Delete to get back to desktop.

Have searched Microsoft for help, no results. The last Dialogue Box message is "Install DXSDK".

Again searched Microsoft for this program to download it. I did find a download for DXSDK, but at 56k modem speed it would take some 12-15 hours.

As a C.F.A. volunteer, I can't tie the phone up for that long.

Question.- What does it mean when I read; Handler not defined, and what does it mean by;

#Set Track Enabled?

And what is DXSDK?

What would I acheive by installing it?

Quick Time Player is already installed and working fine.

Testing DX was successful.

The game is compatible with Windows XP Pro. I have 512 of Ram, 40 Gig of Hard Drive. Also have a 256MB of Geforce Video accellerator card installed.

Under 'Events' (Administrator) C.S.I. is listed as an "Error".

Where do I go from here?

Advise, guidance and assistance required. Thanking you all in advance, --- Tony

Re: What the heck is SDK?

DXSDK is DirectX Software Development Kit. Guessing now. It seems to be wanting to compile some code - unusual in a retail distribution. If it needs the SDK, it cannot assume that a download will be available, so the required files will be on the disk. Explore the directories and see if it is there. I may be entirely off base. It may just be an error due to some issue with your system. Maybe try the installation on another pc. Install the latest DirectX version.

Re: What the heck is SDK?

The software company responsible for CSI says the way to solve that problem is to install/re-install the correct version of Quick Time.
