Link 2 computers (3 posts)

I have Win XP pro installed.

I want to link 2 computers and when I read the Microsoft blurb it is a matter of linking the two via a cable in IEEE1394 socket.

I have done this and it does not work!

What is the correct procedure for connecting the two via IEEE1394?

Thank you. John.

Re: Link 2 computers

Do you have a reason why you choose to network using the IEEE1394 (Firewire) port rather than the network (Ethernet) port?

Sure, it works, but all it can do is connect two computers, not printers or routers or anything else, and it sure is the hard way of doing it. And hard ways of doing things are things that only people who are knowledgeable should try.

It's slightly faster than networking over 100 Mb/s ethernet, but not by much.

Re: Link 2 computers

This may not solve everyone's problem with networking, but this is one way to fix a problem if you can't connect to user’s computer. 1. Click Start button. 2. Click "My Network Places". 3. Right-click and click on "Properties". 4. Right-click on "Local Area Connection" and click on "Properties". 5. Click on the "Authentication" tab. 6. Uncheck "Enable network access control using IEEE 802.1X". 7. Click "OK".
