Network problem (3 posts)

Recently I installed D-Link DI-624 router to get my laptop connected wirelessly to the cable modem/router. It worked!

The laptop (IBM T42 has Intel 2200 b/g) is connecting to the network but my problem is I could not 'share' files from my PC or vice versa. 'My network place' has no files shared. The tutorial was not much help.

Meantime I bought a DLink DP-301P+ to share a printer connected to the PC but to no avail.

It seems like my Network is not available at all. My network is not linking properly.

Is there anyone who could help me? How can I find out what my Domain name is? What do I need to do to find out this info?

Re: Network problem

Have u set the file (that u want to share) properties to enable sharing?

Re: Network problem

There are plenty of possible issues.

In the first place you are using presumably a peer to peer network, so you don't have a domain name (that would only be the case if you are logging in to a NT server).

Make sure the workgroup name is the same on all PCs (right click on My Computer>Properties>Computer Name> Change...) I assume they are all set up to get their IP addresses automatically, otherwise the cable sharing wouldn't work. Right click on the folder you want to share, and under "sharing and security", provide a share name. You should see the names of the various workgroup PCs via Network Neighbourhood, view PCs in workgroup etc once they are all in the same workgroup.

As for the print server, the manual should be OK to guide you, my first thought is that the IP address is not in the same range as the rest of the network. The setup program should be able to find it regardless though as it will use a non-tcp/ip method to find the device on your network.
