Hi, I bought a secondhand cpu its a athlon 3200 socket a I have a gigabyte 7N400L motherboard which is running a athlon 2600 all working fine. When I installed the 3200 and hit the power the computer starts but I get nothing on the monitor - the computer gives no warning sounds, just got nothing.
Jumpers are set to auto detect and I have tried turning the clk sw to off which the manual says to do for 200mhz fsb. I'm guessing that i have been sold a dud but would appreciate any help

Re: cpu won't start
The 3200 has an FSB of 400 MHz not 200 MHz. You are confusing clock speed and FSB speed. Change CLK_SW back to AUTO (ON). Leave the CLK_RATIO switches on the AUTO setting too.
Your motherboard does support 400 Mhz FSB CPUS like the 3200. And even if it didn't, it'd just run at a slower speed. So if its not a dud it should just work automatically without changing any settings. The CPU voltage is selected automatically. And with CLK_SW and CLK_RATIO both set to AUTO both the FSB speed and multiplier are selected automatically.
Put your Athlon 2600 back in. If it works its pretty certain the 3200 is a dud.
