network dilema (2 posts)

I purchased a pair of network cards (3Com Etherlink III 3c509b-c) the computer calls them 3Com Etherlink 10 ISA (3c509/3c509b) in Legacy Mode. I put a card into my computer and did the add new hardware wizard and it detected it and installed the drivers and asked me to reboot, so I did.

When my computer started up again I could not use my modem (rockwell 56k ktx using rockwell chips)or network because the card was complaining that there was no free resources so I took out my modem and it worked until I tried to do something with it. I set the software up plugged the thin coaxial cable in and did the nic test, it was successful but then when I did the network connection test it said that no packets were recieved.

I went to control panel - system - device manager and clicked properties on the network card it said there were no drivers for it so I updated the drivers from 3com's website. that didn't help so I decided to uninstall the card and try again but once the card was uninstalled my add new hardware wizard wouldn't work. It came up with some message saying it couldn't load an .inf but didn't say which one so I formatted my computer and tried again and again and again, now I don't know what to do.

any help would be appreciated.

Re: network dilema

Hi Richard,

You might like to investigate if there is a DOS utility from 3Com to set the IRQ and other details of the card.

Try changing these around so that they don't conflict with anything.

Ben
