I am running 2600+ XP Pro SP2 and all of a sudden I am unable to sort the start button programs alphabetically.
If when I go to the start button, and scroll up the programs tab I try to rightclick it so that I can sort it alphabetically, none of the options appear.
It seems as though the window that should pop up, giving the options just appears and instantly disappears, without any chance to read the options, let alone select one.
I hope that someone can give the correct registry key so that I can manually [and hopefully] sort out this problem.
Thanks!

Re: Unable To Sort Programs Alphabetically
Chris,
Right click your Task Bar and click Properties. Click the Start Menu tab. Click "Customize". Click the Advanced tab. Under "Start Menu Items" place a tick next to "Enable Dragging and Dropping", then click OK and then OK again.

Daniel

Re: Unable To Sort Programs Alphabetically
Chris,
Wondering about the dreaded words- Virus/Spyware/Adware/Malware. some of these give indications such as you describe.
Apart from that I am unable to offer anything more.
Hope you resolve the problem.

Easier than that. Right click the Start Button, click Properties, click Customise, click Advanced, click "Enable Dragging and Dropping". Fixed.

Re: Unable To Sort Programs Alphabetically
I read through all the responses...
1st - my settings were already as described...
2nd - wouldn't have thought so, I use AdAware after each surfing session, and have just installed the new professional edition...
3rd - tried a hunch and unchecked "enable drag and drop" then applied settings, exited out and reopened the dialogue box and rechecked the applicable setting, and VOILA! all okay again.
