I'm using Ad-Aware SE Personal with latest definitions file (27-12-06).
I notice that when I do a scan, it identifies 84 'critical objects' - tracking cookies - which I then get the program to quarantine.
If I restart the computer and do a new scan nil 'critical objects' are found.
Then as soon as I go on and off the internet and do another scan, it identifies the same 84 tracking cookies even though I haven't gone to the respective web sites, although the numbers of each cookie are different from the last scan.
The cookies are shown as being in the IE cache, even though I don't use IE
What gives - what is on the computer which keeps creating these cookies without going to the web sites concerned ?
Thanks,
Ron

Re: AdAware not eliminating cause of tracking cookies
Ron,
I delete all in Adaware- rather than quarantine. Have you tried Spybot as a second destroyer of spyware?

Re: AdAware not eliminating cause of tracking cookies
Dick,
Yes, I eliminated all from the quarantine in Ad-Aware.
I just did a scan offline, deleted everything, then did a second scan which showed nothing.
Then just went back online and did a scan while connected to the Internet - and they're all back again.
So, while still online, ran Ad-Aware and deleted them then while still online did another Ad-Aware scan and they were all found once again.
So, it seems something is triggering these tracking cookies whenever I am online even without visiting the related websites.
If I use SpyBot first it finds them and eliminates them too and a subsequent scan by Ad-Aware finds nothing.
That is until I go back online.

Re: AdAware not eliminating cause of tracking cookies
Ron,
It really sounds strange. Spybot didn't pick up anything other than the cookies? It would appear that something nasty may be there but I cannot say what it might be.
What browser? Have you tried Mozilla? I have been using Mozilla for a couple of years now and, apart from checking for MS updates, I use it for ALL my requirements. I found, in Adaware, that the only time I picked up a cookie was after using IE.
Good luck.
