Hi all,
I have a Canon PIXMA MP 760 multifunctional inkjet printer. I am going to buy a laptop and I want to wirelessly connect it so I can print from the laptop within the house but I don't want to have my PC on to accomplish this.
It is presently connected to my PC via USB cable. Is there a way to accomplish this or does the PC need to be switched on? One salesman said I neede a Router with a print server, but the router would need to be connected to the printer via USB cable. Another salesman said all I needed was a wireless router connected to my PC and a wireless 'dongle' (I think he said) connected to the USB port of the printer.
This would negate the need for a USB cable to the router. I emailed Canon about this plus whether there may be any incompatabilities associated with wireless networking with this printer and yet to receive a response. Read somewhere that printing via multifunctional printer in a network setup can cause incompatibilities. Is this the case?
Many thanx,hope someone can assist.

Re: Wireless connect laptop to PIXMA MP760 printer
Wireless USB is coming, but not quite yet. Current wireless "dongles" are for computers, not printers. Currently it must be linked by a USB cable. If you use a router with a USB printer port, the other pc can be off, if the printer is plugged into the pc, it must be on.

Re: Wireless connect laptop to PIXMA MP760 printer
You can, but it's probably not worth it. I have a Canon MP780. I have found that the printer needs part of windows to work. I have a D-Link USB Print Server which worked with the Canon i865 printer I used to have, but does not recognise the MP780 as a printer. Canon do sell a device which will allow you to add the MP760 to your network, but it was cheaper for me to buy a Brother MFC that has both wired and wireless networking built in than to buy this device, so I bought the Brother and gave up duplexing. I took the Canon to work where it works perfectly through my desktop.
If you buy a print server make sure it is guaranteed to work with the MP760.
