How do I network cable Internet? (3 posts)

I have cable internet and I want it network it between 3 computers, can any one help me?

Re: How do I network cable Internet?

Get a cable modem router. They cost around $400, and believe me, it's the easiest way. Just plug the cable modem into one end, and plug the computers into the other end.

For instructions on how to do it the difficult way, see my answer to this question.

Re: How do I network cable Internet?

I've installed an ADSL "modem" on my home network of three PC's (W2k AS, W2k Pro and W98SE) using a 4-port Netgear hub (10Base-T EN 104) by inserting the ADSL into the uplink port of the hub.

I use static internal IP's on all PC's (with so few machines why use DHCP?) and use "Sygate home Network" on the server.

The server IP is the "Default Gateway" on both clients and each client is configured to point to the DNS server of my ISP.

Of course, if cable is really different from ADSL then I've just wasted our time, but I hope this helps :-)
