TRANSFER OF MP3 FILES TO MP3 PLAYER (3 posts)

I am having a problem in that when transferring mp3 files to my player, they get out of order and do not end up in the original order. I have tried renaming the original files along the lines of 001, 002, etc, and tried direct transfer with Windows XP file transfer, or taken the files through Media Player, or through I-Tunes. I have also experimented with making sure they are sorted by track order, or by name order - depending on the circumstances. Sometimes I have got it to work after renaming the files, but sometimes no matter what I do they will not go on to the player in my preferred order. It does matter because they are talking book files - if they were music I suppose it wouldn't matter so much!

I have Windows XP Home and DSE Rumba 5000 1gb MP3 Player. The files are ripped from CD in the original instance.

I would be most grateful if anybody could throw any light on this extremely frustrating problem. It just doesn't make sense that they can't transfer in the same order. WHY??

Thank you

It may be depending upon what the player is sorting by. Remove any artist info, as it might be sorting into albums.

Hi Chris

I stripped all the info showing on the tracks down to name, track number, duration and size and they still play in random order. A strange thing is that they transfer across in the correct order but on playback they scramble. (I have made sure that the player is not in "random play" mode). All the tracks are from the same artist anyway.

Thanks for the thought. Any others very welcome!
