Weird IP stuff (3 posts)

I have just set up a peer to peer LAN using Windows 98SE.

I have specified IP addresses to each of the PC's, but now the internet won't work. I can't go to any websites or logon to my instant messenger.

I suspect that it is something to do with the IP address being changed.

How am I to be able to keep the IP address and still be able to access the Internet?

Re: Weird IP stuff

Hello Robert

Your LAN uses TCP-IP pointing to your network device eg a network card.

If you are using a dial up modem then it uses TCP-IP pointing to your Dial up Adapter

A fixed IP address is fine for your network and when you say the Internet wont work I am guessing that you no can dial and connect to the net but when you open a web browser it doesn’t view a web page.

Try running inetwiz from the start à run prompt and follow the wizard to correct any connection settings you may have over looked.

You need a proxy server like anaolgx proxy from www.analogx.com its free! With proxy, each pc has its own IP address and you still get internet access. The proxy software runs on the server pc only. The readme file that comes with this software gives you all the details. How were you sharing the internet before? With ICS?
