ADSL home sharing (3 posts)

I got 2 XPs, 1 Windows 98 2nd machines hook up into a ADSL modem. We share internet connection and would like to share our own files as well. The 2 XPs can share easily just by going into the file or folder properties and click on sharing. However, the 98 2nd does not seem to be that straight forward.

How do i get the 98 2nd one go to network and sharing with the other 2 through ADSL modem connection?

Thanks

Re: ADSL home sharing

Hello Thanh try the Internet sharing wizard again on the WIN98 PC and I guess you have checked your network settings? Same subnet mask and different IP address on the Win98 PC

At a do prompt can the win98 PC “SEE” the other PC`s (just ping the name of the Pc or Ip address.

How do they all connect to each other? via a hub?

If they can see each other try installing a small proxy program ( I like spoon proxy) its free for a limited amount of users.

Re: ADSL home sharing

Hey there,

If you are using the NTFS file system, then the 98 machine will not be able to see the XP's. You will need to download a small program called "dsclient.exe" available from microsoft or do a search on google for it. Hope this helps.
