.fsm extension (8 posts)

Hi PC World,

I had this old PC which had software on it to encrypt all types of files ie .jpg, .doc etc int some like Reference.doc.fsm.

I saved them to disc and I'm unable to open them now. It has all my resumes on the disc. I've tried the web, all to no avail, but can anybody please remember the software that I can open them with? I vaguely remember it being on one of PC Worlds discs, when we use to be able to buy the magazine. Any help would be appreciated.

Regards, David

Re: .fsm extension

David,

You say: "Reference.doc.fsm"?

Have you tried copying the files and renaming to perhaps 'Reference.doc'?

and under properties, use Notepad to open!

These are a couple of options you can try.

Google search for .fsm files appears inappropriate for what you would think the file type should be.

David, FSM are normally 'not'

David,

FSM are normally 'not' related to secure/password protected files.

However I think i remember there was a program called 'File Security Manager' or something like - which was the extension used for there software also.

Try to hunt around and see if this helps...

I alsohave the same problem. I was using the encryption software back in 2005. I lost the software and can't open many jpg.fsm and other files which I allowed it to encrypt. I also think the software was available on either PC Mags, PC Word, cnet or possibily another proper online site during 2004.2006 time frame. The problem was replaed by another but was still able to decode those files encrypted by the older application.
