Local Lan Connection (4 posts)

I have two computer running Window ME, and computer A is sharing dial-up to ISP. Computer B access to ISP via local LAN connection by using home wizard connections, have no problem with this.

My questions is: How can I get my local LAN connection icon in tasks area on computer B, which computer A show any dial-up connections icon on tasks area. Reson for this I would like to disconnect my dial-up connections from computer B, but I can't, I have to go to computer A to disconnected.

Can you show me how this can be done please?

Re: Local Lan Connection

Peter,

I don't think Windows can do that. Some third-party programs can do what you want; a couple of shareware programs you can look at are WinGate (www.deerfield.com) and Sygate (www.sygate.com). These are internet connection sharing programs that take the place of WinME's ICS.

Hope this helps,

Geoff Farrell.

Re: Local Lan Connection

My suggestion would be to remote computer A from computer B. You could do this by downloading a copy of VNC (free), running the server side on computer A and the client on B.

When you run the client you will see the screen of computer A on computer B and this will allow you to remote control it, including disconnecting the internet, as if you were at the machine itself.

VNC also has the advantage of being cross platform and the client can be run from within a java enabled browser.

It also works over a dial-up connection but since it only uses plain text passwords I suggest running it inside a private LAN only.

cheers
