My machine is,
p3-833
Asus CUSL2-C Motherboard (I815e Chipset)
512mb Ram
Asus V7700 Deluxe GF2 GTS video card
2 X 40gb Hdd
Aopen 52x CDRW
DVD-Rom
Soundblaster Live Value
Surecom EP 320X-R 100-10 MIC
Win 98SE
I only have the one machine using dialup, so have never tried to activate the network card until recently, since I'm thinking of upgrading to DSL.
I tried installing the drivers, however, the system would crash or hang, after al ot of searching, I came to the conclusion that the NIC was conflicting with the soundcard (over either IO resources of IRQ).
I've got poor eyesight, so can't be sure, but I think the NIC is installed in slot 5, and windows says it uses IRQ 9, while the soundcard is in slot 2, and uses IRQ 10.
Windows says the NIC uses IO resources C000-C003, and the soundcard uses C000-C01F, and this is where I think the conflict occurred.
I've temporarily solved the problem by creating 2 hardware profiles, one profile has the NIC disabled, and the system (including soundcard) works perfectly), and the second profile has the soundcard disabled.
In the second profile with the soundcard disabled, the NIC seems to install, and windows says it is working properly, however, I don't know how to test the card, since I only have the one machine.
Both cards exist in each of the profiles, I just disable one card to allow the other to work, since I want the PC to work whether video capture, or nework, but not at the same time.
Since disabling the NIC allows the soundcard to work properly, I assume that disabling the soundard in the second profile would allow the NIC to work, but HOW do I test this with just 1 PC?
The diagnostic program that came with card is flakey, it tells me there is no card available, even when I boot in dos and try it, whereas Windows says the card is working properly.
Thanks In Advance,
David.
