My home PC is Windows XP and my company laptop is Windows 2000. I have managed to setup a network between the two ok. I have now gone to ADSL Telstra speed touch with only the one port. The ADSL Modem is connected via USB and I still have my networking between the two but I can not share the internet.
The home PC is the main PC and I want to just hook my notebook into a eithernet port and connect to the internet via Home PC. Can this be done, and can some one let me know how to set up?

Re: Window 2000 to XP
Is there any way that you can switch to an ethernet connection? Most digital modems have both ethernet and USB. You might need to install a USB ethernet adapter or an ethernet card.
I would recommend getting a router to connect the 2 computers to the internet and that way both computers can be on the internet at the same time.
Please note: there are security risks when you have Windows file & printer sharing and on an "always on" internet connection. Someone could join your workgroup and use your computer to store some of their music or movie files or as a jump for spam. Rename your workgroup to a name that only you would know or a name that is not easily guessed.

Re: Window 2000 to XP
Use network setup wizard on the home computer. Choose This Computer Connects to the net, then it says Choose the Internet connection, chose the ADSL conection, create a name for the workgroup. Follow the onscreen instruction
Do the same for for your laptop instead of choosing
This Computer Connects to the net choose This Computer Conects through another computer residential gateway. Type in the workgroup (same workgroup name as the home computer)
Then done
PS: please install a firewall on the home computer if already did that you are protected 99.9%
