Missing drive and can't get it back (2 posts)

This is a bit tougher than changing letter drive.

I was running winXP on a master drive and kept all my content on a slave drive (all SATA, all NTFS).

1)Installed Vista 64bit on a new system and transfered my slave drive over with all its content. 2)Drive did not show up in the Vista. 3)Brought the slave hard drive back to the old WinXP software and set it up in the same configuration as when it was working. 4)Now the hard drive will not show up in my computer.

->Shows up in Device manager ->Shows up in computer management but has a red x on Disk 1, states unreadable.

Now of course i could format it and that would fix the issue, BUT it's not an option as i need the content on it.

It almost seems like the write table has been screwed up or something along those lines. Please any ideas would very appriciated.

Faulty hard drive?

Is the drive making any recurring ticking noises? If so, if might be faulty and might need a professional data recovery place to tend to it.

If not, make sure you have the most up to date 64-bit chipset drivers for your motherboard.

If it still can't be read, install the drive in an external USB enclosure.

Good luck! Hard drive problems are the worst!
