No Scan Logs (6 posts)

I am running Vista Home Premium on a Dell XPS410/2GB RAM.

I purchased BitDefender Internet Security 2008 and have been running it for some time with no problems. Though there were no known changes made to my system, suddenly it started reporting numbers of files that had not been scanned because they are password protected.

I wrote to BitDefender and they replied asking me for logs, which is when I discovered I don't have any. When I go to the history all of my scans are there, but when I click on a scan and then on "Show Log" instead of my browser opening with the log information, my Windows Explorer opens and shows nothing.

BitDefender gave me a link to download and install the 2009 version, which I did, and still no logs. Additionally, they appear to have abandoned me in this.

I am not very technically inclined, but I do know that these scan programs are supposed to provide you with a log and I am concerned about it, and about the items it says are not being scanned.

Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Re: No Scan Logs

Cynthia,

I too run ButDefender- Have just done a search for my log files and here is the location:

C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataBitDefenderDesktopProfilesLogs

You will possibly have to be logged in as administrator and have the "show all files" option selected in Windows Explorer.

I have searched my installation and am unable to find an option that turns off any keeping of Log Files so I would believe that they should be there.

I have a couple of files myself that are password protected and have viewed the files listed in my log and have determined that as the files are from a trusted source, they could be considered virus-free.

Don't forget, even files from trusted sources should be scanned on download and it wouldn't matter if they were password protected as BitDefender would scan them.

Hope you solve your issue.

Re: No Scan Logs

Thank you for your answer, but I can't find the file path you indicated. I went into Folder Options and selected to Show Hidden Files and Folders. Can you help me further with this? I am running Windows Vista Home Premium.

I went to C and opened everything and this is all I found: Program Data/BitDefender/Desktop/Profiles/Logs. Under Logs it showed Deep Scan, Full Scan and Quick Scan and all three folders are empty.

Re: No Scan Logs

Dick, I think I found the folders but same story. There are three folders: Deep Scan, Full Scan and Quick Scan. They are all empty. What could possibly be causing this problem of no logs being created?

Re: No Scan Logs

Cynthia,

My response was for XP. However, your later response indicated that you could not find the files. I would suggest contacting BitDefender for guidance.

My problems were resolved quite quickly.

Their fix will probably be for a removal/re-installation for which they have a 'Removal tool'. They'll probably also give you a link to a download of the latest version.

Re: No Scan Logs

Thank you for responding again, but I don't have any hope left at all as far as getting any help from BitDefender.

I've already uninstalled (using their tool) and reinstalled. It didn't make a difference. I did get a response from BitDefender forum from another gal who doesn't get any logs. Apparently she's not getting any help from BitDefender Tech Support either.
