WIN XP SP2 ICS FRUSTRATION (4 posts)

I have 2 computers running win xp pro with SP2.

The network is working fine being able to see each other and share files. The "server" computer is running an ISDN modem via a USB cable. The "client" computer has no modem installed and I am able to successfully run the network wizard.

When I run the wizard on the server I set it to be the computer to connect directly to the internet. At the final stage of the wizard, where there is an animated display of the 2 computers connecting to each other, the wizard does not complete. The animation just keeps animating. I can't stop the process because there is no cancel button or "X" at the top of the window.

The computer hasn't frozen as I am able to carry out normal operations EXCEPT shutdown/reset. Both computers have the windows firewall running and each computer is detailed in the exception area of the firewall settings. I have used static IPs, "server" 192.168.0.1 and "client" 192.168.0.2 and can confirm that the net work is working perfectly. I just can't connect to the internet connection from the "client" computer. I would really appreciate some sound advice on this matter.

Re: WIN XP SP2 ICS FRUSTRATION

Thanks for your reply. I find if I set the client to auto I lose my network operation. Is there something else I may be doing wrong? I have read heaps of "How To's" and all of them say to set the client as 192.168.0.2.

Thanks again for trying to help, I appreciate it.

Re: WIN XP SP2 ICS FRUSTRATION

OK. Next. Leave the client set to auto, but add a defauly gateway - 192.168.0.1. TCP/IP Properties, Gateway. Enter address and ADD.
