Problem with file sharing (2 posts)

I have a small Ethernet home network, comprising a desktop computer with printer attached, a laptop computer, both running Windows XP Home, and a 4-port modem-router. Most aspects of the network are working fine, ie both computers can access the Internet, and both can use the printer. However, file sharing is a problem. From the desktop I can access files on the laptop, but not the other way around. The network was set up using XPs network wizard, and file sharing was enabled from both computers. If I try to use Windows Explorer from the laptop, and click on My Network Places, I get "My Documents on desk (OEM)" but clicking on that leads nowhere - no error messages, nothing. It would seem that I have a wrong setting somewhere, but I cannot find it. Can anyone help, please?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Problem with file sharing

Firstly, be certain that both machines are in the same workgroup. Right click My Network Places, Click Properties, Click Advanced, click Network Identification. If they aren't the same, change one so they are. Check the sharing again. Right click Shared Docs on both and untick anything which is ticked. Reboot. Back in and tick both items - share folder and allow change. If this doesn't improve matters, in folder options - view, untick "Use simple file sharing" and have another look in the sharing and security tab. Lots of extra options to play with.
