Motherboard double adapter for USB connection? (5 posts)

I have a Asus A7N8X-E motherboard and a Cooler Master front ports for easy USB/Firewire connection. The problem is the motherboard doesnt have enough socket in the motherboard to reconnect everything. It has 2 firewire 9 pin sockets and one usb 9 pin socket. I need another usb socket to plug all usb plugs in. Can you get a double adaptoer for the 9 pin usb socket?

Any thoughts?

Re: Motherboard double adapter for USB connection?

Ross,

There are a couple of ways to overcome this. Buy a USB 'HUB' that you plug into a USB port or you can buy a USB PCI card that lots directly into your motherboard, each will work.

I don't have front ports but I have 2 PCI cards plus 2 USB ports on my motherboard.

Re: Motherboard double adapter for USB connection?

Dick,

the reason he can NOT do it with a USB hub is that the connectors on the ends of the cables are wrong. He has cables expecting to plug into a header on the motherboard, not A or B type connectors. He'll have the same trouble with a plug-in PC board.

Re: Motherboard double adapter for USB connection?

The 9 pin header is already 2 ports. 8 are used 4 for each port. The wiring diagram is in your mobo manual or readily available on the net.

Still not OK! He needs to feed four USB connectors on his Front device, so he wants an adapter from one 9-pin male motherboard USB connector to TWO 9-pin male ones on the end of a cabte!
