A friend has a new Packard Bell running XP Home, P4 2.8 gig processor, 80 gig HD,512 kb RAM. 512 L2 cache. He has tried to install Sims 2 but the machine comes up with an error message about EReg can't be opened, then that properties.txt can't be transfered. All this in the first 22 seconds of installation. At this point the installation stops.

The vendor says contact the game makers who reply by saying see the machine vendors. What help that has been forthcoming consists of turning of firewalls and virus checkers, all done.

The machine has successfully loaded other programs such as MS Business Suit 2003.

The game was successfully installed on another 2 year old machine running XP etc that has never had a game on it.

Where to now?

Is friend using an administrator account? If running copy software (eg cloneCD) uninstall it first.

ps. I always buy business suits from suit shop, will try Microsoft next time.

Sims2 does install! We are using original (new for Xmas) disks.

After doing everything that everyone said to do, Sims still would not install. last chance, went to registry and removed all references to it and tried again. It still stopped at 22 seconds in. We left it and went and made coffee and check the kids. Then after 18 minutes the computer came to life and Sims2 was installed. I went home.
