I have a desktop and laptop with a simple wireless LAN and dial-up ICS. We are about to get ADSL broadband and in anticipation I have bought a D-Link DSL-G604T Wireless ADSL Router. Once set up, will the router allow me access to file and printer sharing between the two machines so that I can remove the desktop Wireless Network Card or is it purely for internet access?

Yes, you will be able to do file and print sharing between the wireless-connected laptop and the desktop plugged directly into one of the ethernet ports on the router.

Thanks Gordon. I wanted to know because I am about to invest in a new desktop and I know PCI slots are a rarity in new machines and there are other cards I want to install.
